Advanced Linac Service Technician Course

The industry's most accessible virtual LINAC training — develop practical troubleshooting and machine-performance expertise faster, safer, and more cost-effectively than traditional training.

An instructor-led online program where students deepen their expertise in medical linear accelerators, beamline diagnostics, and service workflows over twelve weeks — through readings, simulations, quizzes, and guided virtual linac labs. Delivered with scheduled live sessions in English or Spanish, with no travel and no clinical hardware.

What you'll master

Extensive coverage of machine components and beam tuning, anchored by real-world case studies.

  • Components & subsystems — electron gun, klystron, magnetron, RF system, waveguide, bending magnet, target, treatment head, dosimetry, ion chambers, cooling, servo systems.
  • Beam tuning — Elekta gun / AFC / steering servos, Varian dose peaking, trigger & waveform adjustments, beam steering and AFC configuration.
  • Failure case studies — overdose from gun, bending magnet, and target/mode failures; couch failure injury analysis.

What's included

  • 24 instructor led sessions, twice weekly – all recorded for reference and review
  • 33 theory chapters · 24 lessons with a quiz each
  • 26 component & subsystem labs · 13 service-procedure labs

Why teams choose it

Onboard faster

Get a technician service ready up to six months faster than traditional methods.

Common language

Help service and physics teams collaborate and resolve problems together.

Proof of training

Give regulators and vendors evidence of structured competency development.

Be sure it fits

What it does — and doesn't do today

We'd rather you know exactly where the course fits before you buy. It builds deep theory and virtual hands-on skill — it is not a replacement for vendor procedure training on a physical machine.

What it does
  • Deep theory of components, subsystems, and beam tuning
  • Virtual hands-on practice with no risk to clinical equipment
  • Covers Varian & Elekta system configurations
  • Builds troubleshooting reasoning and physics team communication
Note:
  • Not hands-on training on a physical linac
  • No vendor specific PM/maintenance procedures or checklist tools
  • Imaging covered only briefly; Varian Nodes not covered
  • Machine specific interlocks, console faults, and simple repairs (resets, reboots) not covered yet
Where this fits

Two product families, one platform.

SIMAC Training products teach the machine — every one of them includes SIMAC Learning and the SIMAC Machine Education Edition.
SIMAC Digital Twin products model your machine — sold per machine, per beam model, and all built on SIMAC Machine as the base.

SIMAC Training

Includes SIMAC Learning + SIMAC Machine or free SIMAC access

SIMAC Digital Twin

Per machine, per beam model · requires SIMAC Machine · buy as a bundle

This product includes

24 instructor-taught sessions over 12 weeks (recorded, English or Spanish), 24 component/system/QA/maintenance lessons with a quiz each, 33 theory chapters, 26 component & subsystem labs, 13 service procedure labs, SIMAC Learning, SIMAC Machine, 12 months of access — and the Beginner course free.

It does not replace

Vendor training. It complements it: technicians retain far more of the vendor course, and it does not cover vendor-specific PM procedures or checklists.

Managers
Clement Arsenault - Dr George L Dumont Hospital
"Access to training on linear accelerators has been very difficult in the last couple of years. Furthermore, we do not have the resources to set up an in-house training program. Linax provided a thorough and complete introduction to the operations of medical linear accelerators. This is great for new staff."
Kirby Farris - Service New Brunswick
"We want our service technicians to have hands-on training, but that's not readily available. We had a void to fill in our development process, and this course was a perfect fit."
Gavin Cranmer-Sargison - Saskatchewan Cancer Agency
"The SIMAC software and related product offerings were a great resource for us. Our electronics technicians used the simulation software during the linac related training and found it very helpful. It all fits together nicely - Hats off to the Linax team"
Students
Varitron Pakistan
"This course provided valuable hands-on knowledge and troubleshooting techniques that will help me address day-to-day technical challenges more efficiently. The practical insights and structured approach will improve my problem-solving skills on the machine."
London Health Sciences Center
"This course does a very good job in covering the fundamentals that are not sufficiently covered in the vendor courses that I have attended. I will recommend this course be taken by our new employees before they attend any vendor specific course. I feel that they will get much more out of the vendor courses with the increased level of understanding this course provides."
Oncology Systems de Mexico
"My background as biomedical engineer was general for many equipment types, but the course provided me with many theoretical elements of physics and engineering that clarify my work and improves my understanding of linacs. My personal view of the equipment is more complete and reasoned."
